Crane appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Lori A. Crane, PhD, MPH | Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Colorado School of Public Health professor and department chair Lori A. Crane, PhD, MPH is soon to become the school’s new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Crane will assume an acting role immediately with a permanent appointment effective March 1, 2013.
Crane, currently the Chair of the Department of Community and Behavioral Health, was appointed by the school’s dean David C. Goff, Jr. MD, PhD following an internal search to fill the role previously held by Professor of Biostatistics Jack Barnette, PhD.
“Lori has a long and distinguished career of service to the school and public health education and research,” states Goff. “I am extremely confident in her ability to apply that experience to advance the academic mission and programs of our growing school.”
Crane will assume the associate dean position during a period of rapid growth within the school. Since opening in 2008, the school has increased enrollment to over 500 students and added new programs and areas of study. The school is currently making plans for added enrollment and curriculum expansion, areas which will be overseen by Crane in her Associate Dean capacity.
“I believe that the Colorado School of Public Health has the potential to become one of the best schools of public health in the world,” states Crane. “And I’m excited for the chance to be part of the team that leads us there.”
Crane will step down from her role as department chair in order to become associate dean. As a result, Dean Goff will discuss with faculty the search and selection process for naming a new department chair. Additional news regarding this process will be announced in the near future.
As a professor of community and behavioral health, Crane’s research interests include cancer prevention and early detection, with particular emphasis on behavioral interventions to reduce skin cancer risk, and vaccine policy. She teaches courses in program planning and implementation, and survey research. In addition to serving as department chair, her past service contributions to the school include serving as chair of the education and curriculum committee and directing the master of public health community and behavioral health concentration.
I would like to congratulate Dr. Crane for her new appontment as the Colorado School of Public Health new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. I wish her the best in accomplishing the mission and vision of the school in order to become one of the best schools of public health in the world. Again, congratulations Dr. Crane.
